The Villages is a very active community, that is probably why you are visiting. I Moved into Shady Brook Village because the Villages is moving south and it is very far south, the area where all the new building is going on, probably 40-50 minutes to drive to the northern end of the Villages. I am within walking distance of the new charter schools. The Tracy Performing Arts Center is there, acts come in from all over but you have to buy a ticket to go to the events. Middleton downtown is across the street from the school, just opening, lots of shops, and restaurants, there are a bunch of activities planned for their square too but it is not considered one of "the squares". Eastport is the new square, about a mile, a few things are open but lots of storefronts are just being finished. Olympia rec center is there, along with an abundance of outside sports activities. From the north end of the Villages where it started, there are 3 main squares and Sawgrass (a hybrid), they all have a band 365 days a year, and Eastport will be way larger than any of them. If you are a golfer this is your place. Golf everywhere! And the courses make it so pretty around the Villages. There are LOTS of rec centers, big, medium and small, and pools with other outside activities. Besides Eastport there are 2 big, main rec centers (more and larger rooms, bigger variety of classes) about 4 miles away from me and many neighborhood centers 1-6 miles. Again, Eastport is the biggest rec center in the Villages plus it has a lot of other firsts. Our neighborhood center is Saluki (rooms for activities and all the usual outside sports) and it is about 1/2 a mile, an easy walk or golf cart ride away. You need a car, I think, anywhere you live in the Villages if you want to do much.
Since I bought in Shady Brook I do not go to the far north by Spanish Springs for regular weekly activities, I dropped those classes. But I still drive to the north part of the Villages because that is where all the "big shopping venues" are. Yea, finally a brand new Costco and Walmart are much closer to this far south part of the Villages but still need a car to get to them.
